US Open Tennis Tickets 2009
The US Open Tennis tournament, originally known as the US National Championship in 1881, is maintaining one of the oldest tennis traditions in the world. Normally, the tournament is held over a tour week period from the end of August into the first part of September, as is one of the four Grand Slam tennis titles and the last of the tennis season. The tournament has five event championships, including doubles, mixed doubles, singles and junior tournaments. The tournament will be held of the USTA Billie Jean National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, located in Queens, New York.
What sets the US Open apart from the other three Grand Slam tournaments is, instead of allowing the final sets to continue until someone wins by two games, there are final-set tie breakers. The grounds of the Billie Jean National Tennis Center are made of DecoTurf, which is a fast surface which produces less bounce and slightly less friction than other hard surfaces.
The 2009 US Open will be held from August 31-September 13. Opening night ceremonies will pay tribute to athletes and their humanitarian contributions. Special honor will be given to Andre Agassi the 8 time Grand Slam singles champ with the record for 21 consecutive US Open appearances with the last in 2006. Dedicated to transforming U.S. public education through practice, policy and partnerships, the Foundation has raised nearly $75 million to provide opportunities to underserved youth including the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy (a K-12 public charter school) located in Las Vegas, Nevada as it’s crowing achievement. The Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy graduated it’s first senior class this past June, with an astounding 100% of the class receiving high school diplomas. Agassi will be joined by other notable athletes who have contributed their time and celebrity to other humanitarian causes.
The traditional kick off to the U.S. Open is the annual Arthur Ashe Kids day, and this year’s central star is comedian Will Ferrell, who will be joined by Andy Roddick and singer Jordan Sparks to provide a wonderful family event. The day will feature interactive tennis activities in addition to the celebrity appearances and musical performances.
Following up on his win in Wimbledon over Andy Roddick, Roger Federer has his sights set on a sixteenth Grand Slam title, and this has created a buzz over whether Roddick will be able to thwart him on U.S. soil. Fans are already clamoring for tickets to the early sessions to see stars like Roddick, Federer and Serena Williams.
Tickets are still available and on sale and the best prices can be seen in one place on TicketZinger.com. The Open will also be available across the country on ESPN Tennis, which will have 200 hours of tennis coverage in a landmark deal between ESPN and the USTA. As always CBS will provide coverage for the competition as well.
